Early this month, OpenDev’s Gerrit review system logged change number 1,000,000: a six-line patch to Zuul from Jim Blair, the CI/CD platform’s founder. The twist: Blair also filed change number 1, back in December 2012. Nearly 15 years and 999,999 changes later, he marked the one-millionth-commit milestone on the very system he helped build from its first commit.

The milestone is a good occasion to look at what OpenDev actually does: the free, open source collaboratory behind OpenStack, Zuul, Kata Containers, StarlingX and hundreds of smaller projects, where even changes to the servers themselves go through the same reviewed, gated workflow as any code contribution. OpenStack

• Welcome (or welcome back) to the 34 Project Team Leads who volunteered for the upcoming 2027.1 “Indri” release cycle! Technical Committee elections are now underway and will conclude on September 16, so if you were a code contributor with merged changes or active core reviewer in the past 12 months be on the lookout for your ballot and don’t forget to vote.
• In time for the current technical election round, the Technical Committee amended its charter in order to automatically recognize active core reviewers as an official part of the electorate and as potential PTL candidates, even if they didn’t create any changes which merged during the qualifying timeframe.
