Inside Open Infrastructure: April 2026
Spotlight: StarlingX 12.0
The StarlingX community has just reached another major milestone, publishing the 12.0 release of the platform. Throughout recent years, StarlingX has been stress tested in production by telecom operators as a backbone infrastructure for 5G and Open RAN deployments. Based on the feedback from operators, the community has hardened the platform for everyone who needs a highly scalable, yet easy-to-manage cloud platform for one datacenter or many.
Release 12.0 delivers additional hardening and management capabilities to the project, further reinforcing its position as a multi-purpose cloud platform. Whether you are managing industrial IoT applications across a factory floor, orchestrating retail systems in thousands of locations, or in need of a cloud platform to deploy and manage your large datacenter, StarlingX 12.0 provides the stability of a carrier-grade system with the flexibility of a modern, open-source cloud stack.
Enhancements in 12.0 include:
- Enhanced authentication through a single OIDC IdP proxy
- Partial Timing Support (PTS) for PTP
- OpenStack Epoxy and Kubernetes support up to v1.34
- NetApp support as standalone storage backend or combined with Ceph
